The "Bat Tunnel" reopens on 10 April

Fledermaustunnel geöffnet

Spring is here – and with it comes the start of the cycling season in the Sauerland. Good news for all cycling enthusiasts: the popular ‘Bat Tunnel’, part of the SauerlandRadring and the Ruhr-Sieg-Radweg, will reopen on 10 April 2026. Now that the bats have finished hibernating in the 689-metre-long tunnel between Finnentrop-Fehrenbracht and Eslohe-Kückelheim, the section of the route is once again open to cyclists, skaters and pedestrians – and will remain so until the end of October.

The “Bat Tunnel” is the highlight of the SauerlandRadring, which connects the five partner municipalities via the 84-kilometre circular route and the 40-kilometre “Hennesee Runde” right in the heart of the Sauerland. It is also part of the 112 km Ruhr-Sieg Cycle Route, which connects Meschede in the "Ruhrgebiet" with Kirchen in the Sieg Valley and takes cyclists along the shores of the "Biggesee". You can find further interesting information on the website of SauerlandRadring.
