Interesting to know

The Veischeder Sonnenpfad Trail is 37 kilometres of hiking at its best. It can easily be divided into two stages with overnight stays. In addition to varied landscapes and magnificent panoramas, there is Bilstein Castle (now a youth hostel) and the Hohe Bracht viewing tower (584 metres, refreshments available) to conquer. To make sure you have enough time to enjoy the low mountain range landscape of the Veischedetal between Olpe and Lennestadt, the hosts of "Gastronomie Veischedetal" offer not only cosy places to stop for refreshments, but also accommodation ranging from youth hostels and guesthouses to four-star hotels. HERE you will find our package deal "Hiking on the Sonnenpfad Trail - 37 km of hiking fun".

Granted: The Veischeder Sonnenpfad Trail is not an easy walk. But you will be rewarded with wonderful views of pretty half-timbered villages, open fields, meadows and forests. If you are fit and athletic, the Veischeder Sonnenpfad can be completed in one day. But it would be a shame if you didn't have enough time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. One of the highlights along the way is Bilstein Castle, built in the 13th century and now used as a youth hostel. The castle courtyard is the perfect place to take a break and catch your breath. The Hohe Bracht awaits hikers after a very special descent with refreshments, tasty snacks and stunning views (check opening times).

Since 2013, the Veischeder Sonnenpfad has carried the "Hikeable Germany Quality Trail"/Wanderbares Deutschland seal of approval.

The Veischeder Sonnenpfad has been continuously developed by the restaurant owners since 2010 and was awarded the "Hikeable Germany Quality Trail" in 2013 for its route and infrastructure. It offers a wide range of options for hikers and hiking groups. Whether as a complete route or in individual stages... alternative marked hiking trails lead from the neighbouring villages of Oberveischede, Apollmicke, Kirchveischede, Bilstein and Bonzel to the starting point of the Sun Trail. Buscheid is the highest point on the trail at 599 metres above sea level and Bonzel is the lowest point at 280 metres above sea level. There are plenty of benches and rest areas along the way. There are also shelters and information boards showing where you are and how to get there. Signposts indicate the route to nearby villages and catering establishments, with distances and opening times.
The white "V" on a black background is the official signposting of the Veischeder Sonnenpfald Trail, which guides and accompanies hikers safely and comfortably along the Veischede Sonnenpfad Trail.
Past flowering meadows, through varied forest landscapes and the occasional encounter with game, cows or horses, this not always easy walk will leave you with lasting memories of the Veischede Valley.
